Airpoints Silver Status: Unveiling the Benefits

Welcome to our starter guide on Air New Zealand Airpoints Silver, the second rewards tier rung with Air New Zealand.

Whether you're an avid traveller or just embarking on your journey with Air New Zealand, our guide will cover off on the key benefits of reaching Silver status.

What is Airpoints Silver?

Airpoints Silver is the second tier in Air New Zealand's frequent flyer programme, positioned above the entry-level Airpoints tier and below Gold and Elite tiers.

To earn Silver status, you need to accrue 450 status points within a 12-month period, with at least half of these points earned on Air New Zealand operated flights, qualifying partner airline flights, or Star Alliance qualifying flights. To retain your status, you need 405 status points.

Key Benefits of Airpoints Silver

Lounge Access

As a Silver member, one of the key benefits you'll enjoy is access to Air New Zealand's lounges. You will receive two complimentary single-entry lounge eVouchers each membership year. These can be used at all Air New Zealand owned lounges when departing on an Air New Zealand ticketed and operated flight.

Cabin Upgrades

Airpoints Silver members receive one recognition upgrade each membership year. This upgrade can be used to request a cabin class upgrade for one flight sector (for example, from premium economy to business premier) on an Air New Zealand operated flight.

In addition, Air New Zealand's OneUp upgrade offer system provides an opportunity for Silver members to move up one cabin class on international flights. As a token of appreciation for your loyalty, Silver members' OneUp offers will be upweighted by 10%.

Extra Silver Benefits

Silver members are privy to discounted long haul Business class fares, available in limited quantities. This benefit allows you to experience the luxury of Business class at a lower cost. The fares however can only be purchased using Airpoints Dollars and exclude all applicable taxes, levies and surcharges, which must be paid for in cash. You better have a hefty balance ready!

Airpoints Silver and Star Alliance Status

As an Airpoints Silver member, you'll also be recognised as a Star Alliance Silver Status holder. This status entitles you to privileges like priority reservation waitlist and priority airport standby, making your journey smoother when flying with any Star Alliance member airlines.

Summing Up

Airpoints Silver status offers a range of benefits designed to enhance your travel experience with Air New Zealand and its partners.

While the perks are pretty basic compared to the higher tiers, they’re designed as such, to try and encourage you to travel ‘just that little bit more’ and earn Gold in your next membership year. The free lounge access passes are a great teaser and may push some to purchase Koru Club membership, so you don’t go without on future trips.

From lounge access to cabin upgrades and discounted Business class fares, achieving Silver status truly adds a bit more value to your journey.
